Know the signs when it is time to replace your home fencing.

Wooden fences are a great investment to any home, but there comes a time where you might have to replace them with a new fence.  A quality wooden fence that is treated with protective coating can last up to 10 years, but it will eventually succumb to rot and other damage.  Wood is not indestructible, so it is critical that you inspect your fence regularly to identify potential issues.  When inspecting the structure, you should know the signs that point to you replacing your wooden residential fence.

Cracking and Splintering

One of the biggest indicators that it is time to replace your wooden fence is if there are cracked or splintered boards.  Older wooden fences have tend to warp and crack, especially if you leave them untreated.  Wooden fenced that are untreated are susceptible to water damage and will then crack.  Cracked boards indicate your fence is extremely weak and is a security risk for your whole family.  Depending on the severity of the damage, you should replace your fence immediately.

Staining

If you notice that your wooden fence has yellow and gray stains, then it has started to rot and mold.  Once your wooden fence has rotted, there is very little you can do to save it.  It is critical that you regularly inspect your fence and apply a sealant, especially before the winter season.  The last thing you want is to replace your whole fence because you neglected to take care of it.

Leaning

If you ever notice your wooden fence is leaning or tilted, it is a strong sign that it is suffering from structural damage.  You fence boards are likely weak and have succumbed to rotting or water damage.  You should contact the professionals at Freedom Fence to inspect your fence and replace it with a brand new fence.
