Tips For Keeping Your Screened Enclosures Clean in Ellicott City

Keeping your screened enclosures clean this summer must be at the top of your to-do list!

Keeping your screened enclosures clean this summer must be at the top of your to-do list! Clean screens mean that your enclosures will look great and feel more inviting, but most importantly, they’ll last longer. Are you an Ellicott City resident? Then read on! Today we’re sharing some cleaning tips to help keep your enclosures looking and working their best!

Spray and Scrub

One of the essential steps to keeping your screened enclosure looking its best is merely ensuring that you’re cleaning it regularly. To clean your screened enclosure, you only need a few things and a sunny afternoon: a soft bristle brush, a hose, and a bucket of warm soapy water. Start by giving the screens a rinse of water, preferably warm, and let them sit for a few minutes. Next, use your warm soapy water and a bristle brush to scrub and clean the screens lightly. You want to be gentle to not put any holes in them, but firm enough to loosen and remove any dirt. If there are any stubborn spots, they may need a second pass with the brush. Finally, give everything a rinse with the hose at a low pressure to rinse off the suds and loosened dirt. It may help to snap dry the screens, provide them with a light shake, or dry them with a chamois to ensure you don’t have any streaks.

Remove Mold

One of the most tricky things to deal with on your screened enclosure is if you have a buildup of mold. Mold can generate, and it not only looks unpleasant, but it can lead to health issues, and increase the rate at which your screens deteriorate. If you have plants nearby, you’ll want to thoroughly water them before you begin your mold cleaning to ensure that they are safe from your cleaning solutions. To remove mold, you’ll need to use a solution of one part bleach to three parts warm water, or a half-and-half mix of water and white vinegar. If you have white screens, they will look better for longer if you make vinegar and bleach rinse a regular part of maintenance.
