4 Ways to Style Your Outdoor Patio

Warmer days are on the horizon!

Winter weather is here to stay for six more weeks, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start planning for the warmer months of patio lounging! Here are some fun and simple ways to style your outdoor patio with décor that reflects your style.

What About Wood?

Wood is a reliable and beautiful option for outdoor patio seating. Teak, eucalyptus, and cedar all hold up well in the great outdoors. Teak can last up to an amazing 100 years and will weather over time from the original brown to a gray color (like cedar), but can be preserved with teak protector once a year. Eucalyptus furniture can last just as long if it is properly maintained and treated with a water-based acrylic sealant.  Cedar furniture will last about 20 years and will need a yearly coating of protective oil to prevent uneven fading.

Meet Metal

Metal patio furniture and décor is very popular for a wide variety fo styles and tastes. Everything from classic Italian villa to sleek and modern can be accommodated with cast or wrought iron patio décor. If you purchase wrought iron, make sure that it has been powder-coated to prevent rusting. Aluminum is another popular patio material that will not rust (seriously!) and is lightweight for easy moving. Aluminum can look just as nice as wrought or cast iron, so don’t be afraid to check out all of your options.

Synthetics

Plastic is the most affordable material for your patio furniture and décor, and it does last just about forever. Plastic has the downside of being less attractive than other materials, but with the right styling it can look great. Wicker is another synthetic choice that looks rustic and homey and weather-resistant.
