Wind can carry flames and embers alike onto flammable surfaces. If you do light a fire, make sure to put out the fire completely afterward.

Properly using your backyard grill, fire pit, fireplace, etc., will generally prevent any fires from happening as well. Clean your appliance regularly to remove excess soot, oil, grease, and other debris that could cause problems down the road.
5. Keep the Right Fire Extinguisher Nearby
Never put out electrical or grease fires with water. Use a fire extinguisher designed to extinguish these kinds of flames. Have the right kind of fire extinguisher, whether an actual fire extinguisher or water, nearby.
