How to Deep Clean a Screened Porch

Screened Porch 23

Freshen up your screened porch this fall with these steps.

Spring and summer are excellent times to enjoy your screened porch and backyard. However, with heavy use throughout those seasons, your porch can undergo a great deal of wear and tear. Now that fall is here, and leaves will be on the ground before too long, it’s the perfect time to deep clean the screened porch. Here are some of our best tips to get your outdoor living space the cleanest it’s ever been.

Gather Your Supplies

Before you can deep clean a screened porch, you need to make sure that you have plenty of supplies to get the job done. Start by gathering these supplies:

  • Hose
  • Pressure washer or garden sprayer
  • Shop-Vac
  • Spray cleaner
  • Rags or old towels
  • Broom

It’s also a good idea to wear rain boots as you clean, as you will be working with water and potentially get wet.

Vacuum and Sweep

When you want to deep clean a screened porch, you should start by tidying up the surface with a broom and a vacuum. This is particularly important if you have a carpet or rug, as there is a good chance that there is dirt and pollen packed into the surface. Once you’ve vacuumed the rug, move it off the porch and sweep the floor.

Hose It All Down

After removing anything upholstered or made of fabric off the screened porch, hose everything down. This will help knock off dirt and debris, and it will also get rid of leaves and pollen. If you have any stubborn dirt, you can use a wire brush and mild soap to get rid of everything. Do you have a pressure washer? This is also a great chance to use it—just make sure that you properly adjust the setting for the materials on your porch.

Let It Dry

Finally, after you’ve done most of the steps to deep clean a screened porch, you need to let everything dry. If you have any pillows or things that you are not going to leave out for the fall and winter, this is a great time to pack them up.
